Are you unsure how to call the states, or are you unsure how to detect the direction of mouse movement?

No, you don't have to be employed while in EAD but do remember GC is future job, if have something to show them then you are safe.
Correct, with a few exceptions:
1) I-140 can be automatically revoked if the petitioning employer goes out of business.
2) I-140 can be withdrawn by the petitioning employer.
If you do not expect these two events while you are waiting for I-485 approval, there is no need to work.

The Indian numbers went up 9.2 per cent from 94,563 in 2007/2008 to cross 100,000 for the first time to retain its position as the top place of origin for international students in the United States. China remained in second place, although there was a sharp 21 per cent spike in students from China, going up from 81,127 last academic year to 98,235 this year. South Korea (69,000 to 75,000) remained in third place.
This is the eighth consecutive year that India has remained in the top spot. In course of a preview of the forthcoming visit to Washington of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh next week, Indian officials said on Monday that Indian student inflow contributed nearly $ 3 billion to the US economy last year. Overall, international students contribute $17.8 billion to the US economy, through their expenditures on tuition and living expenses, according to the US Department of Commerce.
Authors of the report said the findings do not reflect the full impact of the past year's economic downturn, since decisions to come to the United States to study were made before the financial effects were fully felt in the sending countries.

Me too in same boat. At NSC, RD - 7/30, ND - 8/31, PD - 04/2007, EADs rcvd by 10/10 and waiting for APs. No LUDs after FP(9/28) on APs or 485s. LUD still shows 9/5 only. Any idea where is Nebraska now in processing APs???

In addition to that, there is a 90% chance that there will be an inquiry from USCIS when change of status petition (B1/B2 to H1) is filed, mostly asking the routine questions and the query would have to be replied by a good attorney in a proper manner.

Not bad, got visa approved same day. This was my 7th year H1 extension, while I485 is pending, applied last year July..
Got appointment a month before. Consulate automatically checks for PIMS verification within next 2-3 days..I got banamex receipt made by Mexican assistance services, in fact there are many people / company willing to get this receipt made for nominal charges..
Drove to Nogales, AZ. Parked car in one of the parking lot. Cross border by foot through revolving door. No one is there to check any immigration paper for Mexico. People from India do need visa to visit Mexico but rule seems to be bit vague. To visit US consulate in Nogales, one can get local tourist permit (which can be obtained at POA in Mexico immigration. I got Mexico visa for 6 month multiple entry through local Mexican consulate in US. In retrospect, probably I wasted time and money for nothing..No one bothers to check any documents in Mexico, in fact I have look hard to find someone in immigration to stamp my entry in Mexico..
Anyway, got Cab for $7 to US consulate. Reached there at 7.30am. Appointment time was at 8am. But this doesn't matter as consulate will let all Mexican labor visa applicant to go in first (approx 150 of them). I stood in line for about 2 hours, finally got in at 9.30. Process was smooth from there on..got biometrics / photo done and then interview for 2 minutes..IO didn't ask much, just few simple questions..Didn�t even check any extra document. I was advised to come at 3 pm to collect visa which I did. (Spent 4 hours -11am to 3pm in nearby Nogales mall)
Got return cab to border. Took about 30 minutes get new I 94 made. Entered Nogales, AZ comfortably. Car was still parked safely...Returned home happily...Will continue to wait from GC, stuck in PD of April 2006 in EB2

I had a similar experience. Four weeks after my I-140 was approved, I had another LUD and when I checked the online status, it had the same message that you mentioned. When I asked my lawyer, he told me that it ususally means that the employer has received a copy of the approval as well. And sure enough, 3 days later, I found out from HR that they received the I-140 approval letter and they wanted to know what to do with it.
Does this mean both the employer and employee get their separate copies of I-140? I assumed only the employer/lawyer gets to have the actual I-140 approval.

I'm currently on h1b, with PERM approved and I-140 filing in progress.
At what stage of the green card process can I write iPhone Apps for the Apple App Store and accept payments for them?
I know I'm allowed to own a company but not take a salary on h1b. So would it be possible to incorporate a company and then let the money accumulate in company accounts until I get to the stage when I can accept payments? Can the company pay for development resources such as equipment and accessories needed for developing the Apps even if I don't take a salary?

I checked with my immigration attorney about this situation anticipating job change few days ago. According to him one can enter as long as s/he can show new H1B approval notice provided the old H1B visa is still valid (not expired).
As always, we can express our own interpretation, and its always a good idea to contact an immigration attorney to get specific answers.

I have a passport expiry and new visa stamping conflict. My last visa stamping expired on Oct 01, 2009. And my current (Indian)passport expiration date is July 04, 2011. Also, my H1b approval is under the transfer process (so I don't have the new I-797 as yet). I'm planning to travel to India sometime in January, expecting the new H1b approval soon now.
Should i get my passport renewed here before leaving for India ? I'm worried if they will give me a new passport valid only for a year as a note on the website says "A passport is also issued for one year in cases of expiry of valid U.S. residence visa. In such cases, applicants have to apply for extension of validity as soon as valid U.S. Residence visa is approved. There is no fee for extension of validity of passport."
Since my last visa stamping has expired and I will soon have a new H1B, if i go for a new visa stamping, will I be given a visa with validity until my passport expiry ? My PERM has been pending for over one year, and I just got the H1 Approval for 1 year and 2 months (1 year H1 Extension and 2 months recapture time). I am currently in Malaysia and need to apply for a visa at US Consulate in Malaysia. Since I am on the H1 visa, I have to show the proof that I will return back to Malaysia after the end of my work period in US. Accordingly, I would need to purchase the round trip ticket. The issue is that the plane ticket only valid for the maximum of 1 year, but my visa valid for 1 year and 2 months. Please advise if one way plane ticket would be sufficient for the visa interview or need to be a round trip plane ticket. If it is not, what should I do? Also, I wonder if the application package including I-129 submitted to USCIS need to be stamped �Certified True Copy� with the original signature of the lawyer or employer for the visa interview. Can I use the copy one that is stamped �Certified True Copy� with the non-original signatures of my lawyer or employer? Anybody pls help. Thank you very much.

I applied my EAD in Nebraska as OH falls under it's jurisdiction and got my approval in 2 weeks. Thought of sharing so that some one may find this information useful.
