Thanks for the useful information.
Recently I came back from India based AP but they stamped Mar 23 2009 on my I-94 as expired date since my AP will expire during that time. So would I need to file H1 extension to get new I-94.

I was in a similar situation, I took my wife's GC with me when I went to India and she travelled back on GC instead of AP, no issues at the Immigration's.

I have lived in GA for 5 years...but here is what I found on GSU's site (the school I would like to go to, looks like they have a specific policy):

H1-B visa-holders and their H-4 dependents residing in Georgia while waiting for approval of adjustment of status to U. S. legal permanent resident shall have the same privilege of consideration for payment of in-state tuition rate as a citizen of the United States. These individuals must be able to show clear evidence of having taken all legally permissible steps under applicable provisions of immigration law toward establishing legal permanent residence in the
United States and the establishment of domicile in the State of Georgia at least 12 months prior to the first day of classes for the term in which they are seeking payment of the in-state tuition rate.
One or more of the following documents should be submitted as proof of taking the appropriate steps toward U.S. legal permanent resident status.
I-94 (Arrival/Departure Record)
Form ETA - 9089 Alien Labor Certification Application
I-140 Immigrant Petition for an Alien Worker

I'm currently working for Company A on H1B Visa. My GC is sponsored through Company B as a future employee. I never worked for Company B which has sponsored for my GC. I have applied for I485 and I140 has been approved for more than 6 months.
Company A is going through lay offs and wont be able to apply for my GC. My 6 yr limit on H1B from Company A will expire next year.
Can i apply for H1B extension through Company A based on my I-140 from Company B.

Now because all embassies and consulates required to use PIMS to verify your H1B status... sometimes takes several weeks to get the passport stamped. In my case takes 3 weeks after interview to get my passport back (embassy at Lima, Peru).

Yes, this is very sad. I did receive the same email. Monthly $10 wouldn't be much. May be you can get rid of one pay channel or the munchies from grocery store. That's the only sacrifice you had to do !

I am working in US from Feb 2007 to till date. I was on H1-B visa This H1-B petition is valid till 30 sep,2009. I am currently on project which ends on 31 March 2009 . Before that I want to change my employer .
Some ppl suggested me Transfer H1 with extention immediately. Some said that stay with current employer have extention and then transfer . Is there any problem now a days for H1 Transfers ?
Please give me your valuable suggestions.

This pieces and other recent pieces show that plodding ideas about commissions and study groups to recommend visa numbers are relics of a past age. The question is, will Congress act quickly enough on immigration reform to actually make a difference in helping our economy recover. Every immigration lawyer knows these simple truths--lazy people do not walk across the desert. And, its corollary--the Hope that is American attracts those willing to work hard to succeed. Well, the former principle is still true, at least for now. The latter is giving way to hopelessness--backlogged visa numbers ("encased in amber"), and a growing and vibrant economy in China and India. The failure to act quickly is going to cost America in the long run.
