My wife's H1 got approved & it is valid from October Ist. When she went to Social Security Office today 9/30 - they denied saying they can't pull up her information in their system (from INS) & hence they can't issue the SSN.
She was carrying her I-797 approval (along with I-94).
Anyone else faced a similar situation ? Any suggestions.

I recently posted a thread on our buying house expereince, while that was chapter in itself, there is another one that has recently opened up. Allow me to elaborate;
When you buy a house ( as most know) lender sets up an arrangment with Title company. You actually pay for the expenses and title company carries out the work. So as part of the paper work, this title company was assigned to put together, they sent me a copy of the whole deal for my records. Now, the person who was handling the package at title company, sent it to the address on my driver license. Happens to be that right next day from the date of closing, I left this place an moved into my house. So when the package arrived via Fedex, their was no-one their to claim, so the Fedex guy left it on the door step. After more than a week, the title company contacted me via phone asking about why I haven't signed up those documents and sent back. Surprised I asked about when they sent and to what place? that's when we discovered that the package was delievered to wrong place. So I asked them to ask Fedex to go fetch the package and send it to my new address. So now Fedex reported, that the package is gone! ... I contacted apartment office and no-one turned in such package. I called back the title company and informed them about all this and complained about loss of personal information. I asked them to pay for identity protection program, which they have refused.
So my question is what legal course do I have to ensure they pay for my ID protection. I am really furstrated with the way these people do work. Instead of accepting negligence they are refuting my greivance. I have never hired a lawyer nor has taken anyone to court, but feel cheated.

I successfully ported from EB3 to EB2 in the same company while on EAD
Now i am working on the new Eb2 position using the EAD obtained from the EB3 position. I have still not filed my Eb2 485 since dates are not current (priority date jan 2007)
The new Eb2 job description was similiar to Eb3 but the difference was that now it required masters degree and 1 year experience. This is becasue of more resposnitlity and supervisory role in the eb2 position. Also natural progression...
I qualified for the Eb2 position without using the Experience gained in the existing company. I had masters and previous experience which was used for qualification....
Also the older Eb3 position does not exist as it was modified to the new Eb2 position as the role now required more complexity...

I think it can actually create huge heartburn. This is not intended to allow filing I-485 before PD is available. Rather it is to introduce one more hoop to jump over. Now I-485 will be "By invitation" after you successfully complete pre-screen.
Picture this. your I-140 is approved. YOu fill the pre-screen registration. They are supposed to do backgrond, EVL, name check etc etc... During all of this, you did not actually file I-485. Suddenly your PD becomes current becuase DOS has moved dates forward so as not to waste Visas. Still you cannot file I-485 because your pre-screen is not complete.
Basically their processing bottleneck will be shifted to pre-screen and potentially take away the interim benefits of EAD and AP even if they would be otherwise qualified to file for 485.

I just called the USCIS National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283 to get clarification.
The representative I talked to checked with her supervisor, and her response was the following:
- The OMB number at the top is something related to the medical board and has nothing to do with the USCIS. The expiry date is irrelevant to the USCIS. The USCIS only cares about the revision date at the bottom (09/16/05).
In other words, the form that is currently on the USCIS web site is acceptable now and in the future (past 6/30/07) until whenever the USCIS changes which revision of the I-693 will be considered acceptable.

Whoever has already attended FP, did the FP officer ask for 485 receipt also along with FP Notice.

If you have a valid H1 Visa, your wife can enter on H4. Regarding adding your wife's name to your 485 case, I am not sure, but I believe you have to wait until your PD becomes current....

You don't add your wife's name to your I-485. She sends her own I-485. Of course, she can only send it in a month when your PD is Current. She should enter in the US on H4, for which you will need to keep your H1 valid at least until the time of her entry.

My wife came last May on H4 visa. I am on EAD and working with different company from Feb 2008. She had Advance Parole but she used H4 as it was simpler.

My company filed my Perm on Jun 4th 08 but it is not yet approved. My H1B is in its 6th year and will end in July 09. I was wondering if I would get an extension , even if my Perm gets denied for some reason.
I just want to prepare for the worst case. Can any one please help with some information.
What are my options to get a H1B extension.

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CALLED OFF DUE TO TIME CONSTRAINTS AND LOGISTICAL ISSUES.
We will be having a Pre Rally event in the Tri State Area on Saturday, the 8th of September. Everyone from the Tri State Area are expected to make it to this event. So please mark your calenders.
This venue for the event is currently being decided and will most probably be in a centralised location so that everyone can make it to the event with proper planning. The location will most probably be in Jersey City or Edison or Bridgewater and some volunteers are working on the venue finalization. It will most probably be an after lunch "Tea and Snacks" event.
Aman(waldenpond) and Himanshu(pappu) and other core members will be addressing IV members at the event.
It is very essential that members from the Tri State - NY NJ CT PA and also from surrounding areas make it to the event.
Please bring in all your friends, and also inform as many people as possible and do make it to the event.
A lot of important things will be discussed and a lot of questions will be answered.
